WOTC’s 1e reprint announcement killed K&KA

January 19, 2012

Wandered over to get their take on it, lo and behold it broked they fuckin’ mind!

Sorry guys OSRIC is worthless, but thank you for your diligent cut ‘n’ pasting work. When 5e is announced as OGL, OSRIC officially turns into a 400 page doorstop. Now let’s get an official OD&D reprint like the Frazetta version and really put a ranseur through the balls of the OSR.

My only upset with it is the fact that it’s a limited re-release. I guess I need to wander over to Dragonsfoot and see the gushing. moaning, and complaining for myself. 🙂

Maybe it’s their own blackout protest.

How can anyone not like the Knights & Knaves Alehouse? It’s the … Knights & Knaves Alehouse … after all. It has Californians in it.

    T. Foster wants to be famous for getting AD&D back in print,

[quote– T Foster consoles Falconer for deleting their thread]

    No worries, we all screw stuff up occasionally. Bummer that it happened to our “victory lap” thread though, because now “our side”‘s reaction to this news is represented in public by 1) YDIS’s completely erroneous claim that we feel “pwned” (& angry &/or embarrassed) by this vis-a-vis OSRIC (when in fact it’s the exact opposite: 1) this is what we wanted all along, and OSRIC was our workaround because WotC wouldn’t give it to us; and 2) without OSRIC and the so-called OSR, would this have happened? almost certainly not);

Even as a limited edition release aimed at collectors this qualifies as an unambiguous major victory for “our side;” if it sells well enough that WotC decides to make it a wider and more permanent release (by, for instance, distributing to Barnes & Noble in time for the 2012 holiday season) then it’s a Total Victory for everything we’ve been striving for for the past decade.

    there’s more here

Perhaps some of the profits should go towards a statue of T. Foster.

    T. Poser has some difficulty in assigning numbers to his thoughts. Or is having two consecutive number 1’s and two consecutive nuber 2’s the new OSR math? And his first “in your face” is directed toward YDIS! That’s hilarious.

No surprise he is claiming these reprints as a personal victory. Too bad they lost thread, it must have been a vigorous circle jerk.

I think you are ignoring the parentheses.

        Parentheses, schmarentheses.

Within the parentheses he should have used phoenecian characters, not arabic numerals. How does he expect anyone to take him seriously?

Trent Foster??? Who is Trent Foster??? Is that the guy who claims to be some D&D historian???

K&KA??? The site that is well known for plagerizing anothers works and claim as their own??? Hmmm, they steal someone elses work and claim it as their own like the thief GYGAX who stole or attempted to steal (Orientel Adventures) and was caught with his hands in the cookie jar. The Gygax family or scattered family will take forever to get this statue built because they are going try and milk all those suckers for every dime they can. Shit, the old thief beens dead now going on 4 years in March and they cannot build a little bust. LAME.

So I am sorry you feel the way you do Traveller, but I don’t think I am in the wrong here. So if its important enough to you to limit your visits to this board even more, thats your choice. Its my choice not to censor myself because you can’t get past something that happened years ago, with posters I don’t even know, and didn’t even come from the creator/owners of OSRIC.

Now if you tell me that papersandpaychecks, or one of the others involved in creating OSRIC were one of the rude participants, then I will reconsider.

But until then your insisting on censoring me over an issue that you can’t get over is too much. Sorry if that angers you, but your desire to censor me angers me. So if one of us has to be angry it may as well be you, since you still insist on being angry about events from about 4 years ago.

I wish you well and I hope you get past this some day.

    Axe Mental

    T. Foster

Premier (the buffoon on Dragonsfoot who laid that threat on the table).

Each and every last one of them were involved in the personal attacks. There are likely a few more who I can’t remember, though I could take a look at Knights & Knaves Alehouse and give you a list. They all hole up there. Axe and Ska’s history are both well known, since both of them attacked Castles & Crusades in its formative stages because the game was not going to be AD&D reprinted. Additionally, both of them attacked Peter because his artwork wasn’t of the same style as the artwork in the AD&D books. They turned the AD&D books into religious tomes, proclaiming those who did not accept the words of Gary in those books as gospel as heretics.

I know my part in the whole fiasco as I was one of those who shipped the OSRIC documents to Wizards of the Coast, claiming the material infringes on their IP. I am to this date convinced this is the case, comments by the authors notwithstanding. The thread where this all exploded first should still be on Dragonsfoot since I specifically requested it not be deleted in order to demonstrate just how out of touch with reality these people are. I also requested it be left up in order to demonstrate Papersandpaychecks lack of action in persuading his fanbase to stop. He had an opportunity to defuse the situation himself. He failed, and in fact participated.

It isn’t my board, but I have no problem insisting upon a ban on OSRIC discussion. I have very good reasons in insisting upon such a ban. But why bother saying anything since you don’t give a damn about the feelings of anyone else in regards to this matter? The lack of respect is unexpected from you as well as disgusting.

Oh, and yes, I feel that strongly about this matter that I can and (likely) will sever any and all contact with this message board and these people that I have spent years fraternizing with. I have drawn the line, and I am honor bound to enforce it.

I would argue that OSRIC is the superior version of those rules, honestly. The writing and editing is much clearer than the original books. I doubt even the authors would agree with me, but I really believe it’s the truth.

    • January 20, 2012 6:44 pm

Yeah, I actually kinda like it myself. I use the gemstone and jewelry tables all the time. But they got a little too proud of themselves and I would have much preferred it to be pdf only with a bunch of stolen art, like the Frazetta OD&D. Take it to Kinkos and get it printed and bound up for your hard copy.

William Z. Cohen/KewlMarine/Tholian Web/AncientGamer: your obsession with the knights-n-knaves alehouse borders on plain old crazy. Perhaps you should seek help from the VA headshrinkers.

If OSRIC was really a cut/paste, illegal document, don’t you think wotc would have taken action after you sent them the manuscript?

Seriously dude, your stalking of some of the posters at the alehouse is classic internet creepiness.
