RIP Jeff Rients 1943-2011

August 8, 2011

What the vrock is going on here?!?  This is easily the most boring, flavorless, pointless D&D exercise not written by Asslexis.  Holy shit Rients, what the fuck happened to you?  For the thief, it’s just the same three shitty things repeated over and over, for every level.  Wessex is a tedium misdemeanor, but this crap is goddamn felonious mind-numbery with intent to kill by boredom.  Good Lord…

Did Conley hack your blog?

I thought it was clever and kind of fun.

By the way, when are you going to feature the B/X Blackrazor blog? It’s like he’s begging for the YDIS treatment every time he posts.

Search for the post where he does an astrological reading for EGG. Or, my favorite, the post where he talks about the evils of capitalism, then turns around and asks you to pay $30 for his little rules pamphlet.

Turns out thieves are boring and underdeveloped in BX D&D. The only ‘interesting’ thing I discovered was that apparently every NPC thief spends 4th level bumming around Europe or something, since you never find 4th thieves in NPC parties.

    “Did Conley hack your blog?”

Everything is spelled correctly, so that theory is right out.

I think JMonk is trying to one-up Rients, now. He wants us all to speculate on alternate campaign worlds based on the Tekumel backstory… Yawn. Better than hearing how his love-hate relationship with Tolkien has affected his Dweebmount Campaign ™, I suppose, but really, couldn’t we have come up with this dumbass idea on our own?

The OP is all very well (or not even that) however …

I haven’t read enough of Vornheim yet to form an opinion as to its worth but given its *popularity* why is it so cheap? When Vornheim started selling well why didn’t Raggi double the €13 asking price irrespective of its quality?

Following two years of careful, miserly research, I have spent thousands of euro in the last twelve months buying up every *well written and imaginative* old rpg & supplement (in gorgeous condition because Im worth it) and a large and judicious collection of classical miniatures yet Vornheim is only the second blogger/osr/post1990 booklet I have bought. The point being I had a large Gaming Budget but considered nothing contemporary worth buying.

So I ask you, why is Raggi so considerate of his customers, for the sake of argument let us call them ‘incredibly stupid bloggers’? If even I have bought Vornheim wouldn’t Raggi have shipped the same volume of Vornheim books at €25? Strange.

1943? I always figured Rientaria was a post war baby, a lonely nurse and a disfigured veteran bumping uglies on a train ride to the west coast after VJ Day. That or two stoned hippies fucking like animals at Woodstock in the urine soaked mud. Either way, it’s just more romantic.

Vornheim is like the puckering septic boil on the unimaginative ass of Montay Cook.
